October challenge - MyBesties

Hey Crafty Friends,

Start of a new month means start of a new challenge over on the Color it, create it, show if off blog, you can find all the details on the blog here. This months challenge is anything goes.

I am using an image from the Polly and her Lolly Wog range by Sherri Baldy, you can find the image I'm using here.

You are not limited to using a Sherri Baldy image to enter but if you would like to treat yourself to a new image please visit the store.

Now to the card! The inspiration came from a very fond childhood memory, when I saw the girl with her popcorn and teddy in bag I just knew I had to recreate the memory! (Click any image to view it larger)

Starting with my image printed on alcohol marker friendly cardstock I coloured her up using Spectrum Noir Tri-Blends.

Colour combo: Hair- Red Brown blend

Skin + Cheeks - Fair Skin + Pale Pink blends

Dress, Bow + Shoes - Green Turquoise blend

Bag + Socks - Coral blend

Trousers - Light Green blend

Lolly Wog - Pale Pink blend

Next I had to create my background theme, no matter how much I searched I could not find a circus background scene builder so drew a tent, ticket office and popcorn stand myself.

Colour combo: Tent - Dark Red + Citrus blends

Ticket Office + Popcorn Stand - Dark Red + Gold Yellow blends

Once I had fussy card the circus and image out I was left with some white areas around them that needed something, I reached for my trusty Heffy Doodle stencils and used the cloudy skies with green fields. These stencils are fab for creating quick and easy backgrounds. Distress ink colours used are Mowed Lawn, Peacock Feathers and Mustard Seed.

Assembled it altogether and then added some stitched alphabetter dies, I cut the lettering from red and yellow to match my scene however they got a little lost originally due to clashing so I cut the same letters from black cardstock to create a shadow behind them meaning the letters stood out again!  So here we have it Polly and her Lolly Wog visiting the circus.

Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with for our challenge!

I am entering this into the following challenges:
