Swan Galaxy - Interactive card!

Hey Crafty Friends,

Welcome back, I'm sharing my usual design team post for Crafty Purple Frog a few days early because I am so impatient and love this card so much that I wanted to share with you all at the earliest opportunity!

Today's card is very fitting, I usually make a card with someone in mind or themed around something I've seen. My idea for this came as soon as I saw the set 'Spread your wings' This beautiful swan has big regal wings that meant it deserved the opportunity to fly!

To start up I took a scalloped slimline frame die and inked up a galaxy type background, now the thing to remember with creating a galaxy background is it might look like a hot mess to start with! A galaxy background can use any colours you feel are fitting, I'm using Wilted Violet, Mermaid Lagoon and Candied Apple. You can put some greens and pinks in too if you would like.

Take a blending tool, I'm using a blending brush and bring in random sections of colour using your bright colours.

Now take a darker colour, for this project I will be using Black Soot however Stormy Sky or a darker blue will probably work too if you have limited supplies.

After adding the black soot ink to blend it all together I sprinkled some water on top of the panel and dabbed dry to create white speckle affect and used a little white acrylic paint only very slightly watered down and splattered this on as well.

Now for the image, I stamped up the swan using a Mini MISTI and coloured using Spectrum Noir Triblends, now you may be thinking swans are white or grey/black but there are no rules when it comes to card making! So I decided to give the swan some purples and pinks to make it almost look like it's reflecting the galaxy background.

In the below coloured image you will see I have also done the next step where I have fussy cut and then snipped off the wings, this felt a little mean however in order to make them move it was a necessary task!

Now comes the fiddly bit! Interactive cards are still quite new to me and the pull tab slimline dies are designed for a single pull tab, however I needed to create a double slider affect to make both wings move. I used a video by Heffy Doodle design team member Cassie Trask, you can find the project here. The only adaption I made is that I did not stick the centre of my swan to the middle slider, the centre part of my image is stuck down with square foam pads so the middle pull tab moves freely behind the swan without moving him. I have stuck the wings to each of outside sliders so just the wings will move. If you have any questions please feel free to message me I will do my best to assist!

For the sentiments I took a stitched rectangle for the top part of my sentiment and a small banner for the 2nd part of my sentiment and embossed in opaque bright white ultra fine embossing powder.

To finish up I used a stamp set in my stash to add some subtle diamond shapes to the background and then a few pretty sequins for sparkle.

Dont forget embellishments are usually less is more I love the rule of 3 or 5 personally however odd numbers usually work overall!

I hope you were able to take some inspiration from today's post, feel free to reach out anytime if I can help :)

Until next time, happy crafting!
